Highlights as Rotarian

In Rotary Year 2001-2002, District 3790 was recognized and awarded by then RI Pres. Richard King as one of the Top Five Clubs in the Global Quest Awards. In that same year, DG Gerpy Erguiza was awarded as the Most Outstanding President (No.1) and his club, the Rotary Club of Dagupan East, was awarded as the Most Outstanding Club (No. 1) in District 3790. His club was a Global Quest Awardee earning him a free trip to the RI Convention in Barcelona, Spain. DG Gerpy is known to be the President who led the Rotary Club of Dagupan East grow from a membership of 43 to 106.

Young but Accomplished Rotarian Linda

He joined the Rotary Club of Dagupan East in 1998. He served as Director in RY 2000-01, then President in RY 2001-02. Thereafter, he served District 3790 as Retention Chairman, District Area Secretary, Rotary Foundation Chairman for Area 2 in RY 2002- 03; Assistant Governor in RY 2003-04. He was the Chairman in the following district functions: Area 2 Membership Growth & Development Seminar (August 2000), D3790 Rotary Community Corps Seminar (September 2001); D3790 Membership Growth & Development Seminar (August 2002); District 3790 District Assembly (May 2003). DG Gerpy was a 100 precenter in home club attendance.

DG Gerpy is a Multiple Paul Harris Fellow and a Lifetime Member of the Philippine Rotary Magazine. He was a delegate to the following conventions: Rotary Presidential Conference (Manila, April 2001); Rotary International Convention (Barcelona, June 2002); Rotary Zone Institute (Manila, October 2002); Rotary Zone Institute (Singapore, October 2003); Presidential Conference (Manila, January 2004); Rotary Zone Institute (Bangkok, December 2004). He attended the Governor-Elects’ International Assembly in Anaheim, California in February 2005.

His Early Years, Education and Organizational Involvements

DG Gerpy Erguiza was born in San Carlos City, Pangasinan on 18 September 1962. DG Gerpy had his elementary and secondary education in Tarlac where he graduated valedictorian in both levels. In high school, he was Student Council President and the Editor-in-Chief of the school newsletter and recipient of the Gerry Roxas Leadership Medallion Scholarship Grant.

In college, he was admitted at the University of the Philippines as Entrance Scholar and graduated two degrees: BS in Mechanical Engineering and Bachelor of Laws. He was recipient of UP Scholarship for Excellence and Leadership (undergraduate) and the Justice Vicente Santiago Scholarship (Law school). He was a member of the UP Law Order of Purple Feathers which is the honor society of UP Law honor students.

As a leader, DG Gerpy was a UP Student Council Councilor, Chairman of the UP Students’ Congress and Chairman of the National Union of Students of the Philippines– Metro Manila chapter. He was Grand Archon of the Sigma Rho Fraternity of the UP College of Law on the occasion of its 50th year in 1989. He was also President of his law class.

Past Meaningful Work

As an Engineer, DG Gerpy became a consultant in the project of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) 1985-86 and taught engineering subjects. While studying in law school, he served as consultant and executive assistant to the Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

After graduation at UP Law in 1990, he worked with the Angara, Conception, Cruz, Regala and Abello (ACCRA) Law Offices in Makati. During the power crisis in 1993, he joined the team of the National Power Corporation president as Presidential Legal Counsel and Special Assistant. DG Gerpy was part of the team that solved the power crisis in his capacity as an engineer and lawyer. He now works as a lawyer and farmer in Pangasinan.

Family and Community Life

Gerpy is married to Ching Bangsal of Binmaley, Pangasinan. They now have three children namely: Carmella, Christine, Timothy Gerardo.

Outside Rotary, DG Gerpy Erquiza is a Past President of the Dagupan Beach and Golf Club, the Secretary of the Metro Dagupan Chamber of Commerce and the Legal Counsel of the University of the Philippines Alumni Association – Pangasinan Chapter.
